Jersey Boys London

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of seeing Jersey Boys at the Prince Edward Theatre. Having never seen the show and having heard such good things about it, I was excited to see it for the first time. I was brought up with the music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, so to hear the songs live was a treat.

The show did not disappoint. I thought every member of the cast was fantastic in their role. There were two understudies on the night I saw the show, James Winter as Bob Gaudio and Tee Jay as Bob Crewe. I particularly enjoyed the performances of Jon Boydon as Tommy Devito (Click Here To see my video interview with Jon) and Ryan Molloy as Frankie Valli. Tee Jaye made a delightfully camp Bob Crewe, who made me chuckle many times throughout the evening.

One of the things I liked about this show was the fact that it had a lot more substance to it than a lot of other jukebox musicals. It told a story that had brains and a heart and the songs moved the story along well.

The staging for this show surprised me in how minimalist it was. When you think of a big musical like Jersey Boys you imagine it to have a very razzle dazzly set, but it doesn’t. Because, quite frankly, it doesn’t need it! The well known songs and the snappy script make for a very entertaining evening with tinges of emotion throughout.

This show will run and run. Infectious, fabulous, everyone should see it!

  1. Will you please join our campaign to get a London cast recording available on CD, Wendy. Our West End guys are fabulous, but we can't get hold of any lasting record of them. Our Facebook group is at http://www.facebook.com/#!/home.php?sk=group_169254509763275&ap=1 and our petition is at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/londoncastrecordings/signatures.We're running this campaign to get London cast recordings of all West End shows, but are concentrating on Jersey Boys to begin with.Thanks.Lynne McC
