London Riots and West End Theatre

The last three days have been a mess in London. Homes and businesses have been destroyed, some having been there hundreds of years.

I’m sure you have all read about the dreadful riots sweeping through London. I’m not going to go too far into what is happening on here as that’s not what I’m here to talk about.

What I want to talk about is the positivity and resilience of the West End. Despite some fringe theatres closing (understandable when riots have happened in the area in which they are) the West End has stood strong.

Tweets tonight and in the last couple of nights have put a smile on my face even whilst watching the news footage, and I thought I would share some of those tweets with you all in the hope that they would raise a smile.

Even despite what is going on in London, the show must go on! Big respect tonight to all those theatre people who will go on stage and put on a fantastic show despite everything. Also, bags of respect to all the front of house, lighting, sound, backstage and management people who will be working hard to make the shows fantastic.
Sometimes when something happens a little escapism is all you need. I respect everyone who is involved in a show – whether that is as part of the show or in the audience! Here’s hoping everyone in London is safe until this madness ends.
