REVIEW – Confessions of a Mormon Boy

I recently attended the press night of Confessions of a Mormon Boy at the Charing Cross Theatre. I entered the theatre knowing nothing of Mormonism exxcept for what Broadway musical “The Book of Mormon” has taught me.

The 90 minute show was both funny and touching, as Stephen Faels led us through his life. From being raised in a strict Mormon family, through to marriage despite his struggles with his sexuality, right through to divorce, addiction and recovery.

I very much enjoyed the show. Especially considering that one man “memoir” type shows can have a habit of coming across very dull and samey, but Stephen definitely had a story to tell that was both interesting, heartbreaking and yet uplifting at the same time. I felt that there was an extra poignancy in that the show was about Stephen and was performed by him too.

Definitely have a look if you want an interesting night in the theatre.
