I was excited to hear that Zanna Don’t will be brought back to London for a few nights only at London’s Bridewell Theatre, thanks to Centre Stage London!
Written by Tim Acito and with additional lyrics and material by Alexander Dinelaris, Zanna, Don’t! first burst onto the theatre scene in an off-Broadway production in 2003 and was hailed as ‘the fringe feel good show of the year’ by Time Out London when it premiered in London in 2009.
The show is an uplifting musical set in a topsy turvy town of Heartsville; where Zanna, the matchmaking teen makes it his mission to help people fall in love. The story centres on the students of Heartsville High; however, unlike High School Musical and Grease, the swoons and cheers are reserved for the chess champion instead of the football hero. It’s a parallel universe where “girls grab their girls, and guys grab their guys and head on down to Lookout Lake.”
But when Steve, the football captain, falls in love with Kate, the dance captain, will the high school and the town of Heartsville manage to survive the scandal? Will they be hounded out to love in secret? Can Zanna save the day? And if Zanna can save the day, what price will he have to pay?
This new production is directed by Matthew Prince, with choreography by Edward Walsh and musical direction by Matt Gould. Ashlin Ritchie is producing the show for Centre Stage.
Zanna Don’t! will be running at the Bridewell Theatre from 8th to 12th November and tickets are selling FAST! I’m very excited about seeing the show and you should all grab tickets while you can, because who knows when this fabulously uplifting show will be back!
Tickets are £15 or £12.50 for concessions and can be bought at The Website
